Prof Kunio Shirahada was visiting the Circular X team in Maastricht in February 2025. There were exchanges about joint work in the field of circular innovation in companies and comparisons between Europe and The Netherlands. Prof Shirahada discussed his research on knowledge management and how the field has evolved to transform the tacit knowledge of people and organisations into explicit knowledge and use it as a resource for competitive advantage. With the rapid development of artificial intelligence, the role of knowledge management is becoming increasingly important to enhance what only humans can do and to take responsibility for improving society. Prof Shirahada proposed the analytical perspectives and agenda necessary for future knowledge management research from the perspective of human intellect and wisdom, including the historical development of knowledge management. In the process, he explained his findings on transformative service research and sustainable business management. You can read more about the joint work by Prof Shirahada and Circular X' Prof Nancy Bocken here in a paper on Circular business models in Japan.
